YesRemote
network.json).

This page describes how YesRemote (a remote desktop app you can use on your local network or over the internet) handles data on your computer. YesRemote is associated with yesweb.us. The app does not require a YesRemote cloud account to operate.
What the app does not do by default
- YesRemote does not send your session content (screen, audio, input, clipboard, files, chat) to YesRemote or yesweb.us servers by default.
- This codebase does not include built-in analytics or ad tracking to third parties; diagnostic logs are written locally on your machine (see below).
Data stored on your device
YesRemote keeps settings and identifiers in a local application data folder (OS-specific;
on Windows typically %APPDATA%\YesRemote), including for example:
-
Device ID — created or loaded from a local file (
device_id.txt) to identify your installation for connections and discovery. -
Network settings — listen port, optional relay URL, host session
password, unattended host options (
network.json). - Saved MAC addresses — for Wake-on-LAN when you store them.
-
Local logs — under an app
logsdirectory for connection and session diagnostics. - Temporary video frames — while viewing a remote screen, JPEG frames may be spooled briefly in app cache and pruned by the app.
Data exchanged during use
When you host or join a session, YesRemote exchanges data only between you and the peer you connect to, including for example:
- Screen capture / adaptive JPEG stream.
- Optional host-to-viewer audio.
- Keyboard and mouse input from viewer to host.
- Clipboard sync (text and images within app size limits).
- In-session file transfer; incoming files are saved to your OS Downloads folder.
- In-session text chat.
Session payloads are protected with ChaCha20-Poly1305 using a key derived from the session identifier after the TCP handshake completes.
Local network (LAN)
- Direct TCP connections (default port 21115) to an IP/hostname you provide.
- Optional UDP discovery (21117): broadcasts device ID, computer name, and listen port on your LAN; this stays on your network unless your network/firewall exposes it further.
- Wake-on-LAN: when you use it, magic packets are sent on your LAN.
Optional relay server
If you set a Relay URL in settings, the app can register with a
relay server you choose (for example a self-hosted
yesremote-relay-server) to pair client and host by device ID. Then:
- The operator of that relay can see at least connection metadata (device IDs, session passwords if used, connection IP addresses).
- After the tunnel is established, the encrypted YesRemote session runs as on LAN; relay security is the responsibility of whoever operates it.
Without a relay URL, connections use LAN (or a known IP) without relay registration.
Third-party accounts and services
YesRemote does not provide a central user account. External services (such as your relay or yesweb.us) have their own policies if you visit or configure them.
Your security responsibilities
- Control who you allow to connect; use a strong host session password when needed.
- Protect physical access to the host PC; passwords are stored locally in network settings.
- Allow only necessary firewall ports on networks you trust.
Children
YesRemote is a remote-access tool; it is not designed to collect children’s personal data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this page when app behavior changes. The “Last updated” date above reflects this text version.
